HTC has been sending out invitations to the media for an event slated for November 3 in New York City. The invitations clearly specify that the event will be about HTC’s “latest innovation,”which is most likely the HTC Rezound.
The Beats by Dr. Dre logo is also given a prominent spot in the invitations, right beside HTC’s own logo. So, the device will definitely sport Beats technology.
The HTC Rezound is also known in tech circles by its other codename, the HTC Vigor. The Android smartphone is expected to be one of HTC’s upcoming phones that will be equipped with Beats audio technology. HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre formally announced a strategic partnership in August this year.
The HTC Vigor (a.k.a., HTC Rezound) has been mentioned several times in various leaks. A leaked list, which most Android sites deem fairly reliable, claims that the HTC Rezound will be released on Verizon Wireless on November 10–which is pretty much in alignment with HTC’s upcoming media event on November 3.
The same leaked list also pegged the Galaxy Nexus release date on Verizon to be on the same day as the HTC Vigor’s release date.
There have also been speculations about other possible official names for the HTC device. “HTC Rezound” is one. “HTC Vigor” has been around for quite some time.
Other rumors claim the official name might be the HTC Thunderbolt 2, since the HTC Rezound/Vigor is expected to be the replacement to the original HTC Thunderbolt. Others believe the HTC Vigor could end up being called the HTC DROID Incredible HD, since leaked photos of the device show it to be quite a look-alike to the HTC DROID Incredible.
Many are following the HTC Rezound’s sojourn from HTC’s quiet halls to the noisy room of public attention because it is touted–by rumors and speculations, at least–to pack powerful features that make it a strong contender against the likes of the Google Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola DROID RAZR, and the Apple iPhone 4S.
As of today, the HTC Rezound’s unconfirmed specs are as follows:
- dual-core 1.5-GHz Qualcomm Scorpion MSM8660 processor (same as that on the HTC EVO 3D)
- Adreno 220 graphics processing unit
- 4.3-inch touchscreen
