Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to HTC Android smartphones in early 2012, and HTC has just confirmed today which of its high-end Android smartphones are first in line for the upgrades.
In freshly posted notes on both HTC’s global and U.K. Facebook accounts, the company has marked the following as the first handsets to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at an unspecified date in early 2012:
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Sensation XL
- HTC Sensation XE
- HTC EVO 3D
The following U.S. handsets will also get Ice Cream Sandwich in what HTC calls its “first wave” of upgrades for Android 4.0:
- HTC Rezound
- HTC Vivid
- HTC EVO Design 4G
- HTC Amaze 4G
Owners of HTC handsets not mentioned on the list were crestfallen not to find their devices, but HTC was quick to emphasize that the upcoming upgrades will just be the “first wave” and that the company is still in the process of evaluating the rest of the other handset in its Android portfolio. Thus, it is likely that other handsets not included in the “first wave” may still get upgrades to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The company will presumably carry on with skinning its devices with its custom HTC Sense user interface, although Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich notably already has native support for several of the features in HTC Sense.
HTC also vowed to reveal more specific time frames soon for the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades. The list of upgradable HTC handsets will probably expand in the company’s next update regarding its plans for Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades for its Android smartphones and Android tablets.
